Sneak Peek at my Newest Design- VK Crochet 2013

I was delighted when I woke up today and saw a picture in my inbox from VK.  It is the image from the soon to be released Vogue Knitting Crochet  2013 issue.  I have been patiently waiting to see this garment in a photograph and I am really pleased ! The magazine will be on newsstands  and in bookstores on May 7th.

My design in VK Crochet 2013.  Photographed by Rose Callahan for VK

I was enthusiastic when I submitted my design for approval last year, because I love the boho look of certain crocheted garments.  I think intricate crochet lace can be very feminine, but sophisticated at the same time.  However, I was really apprehensive when my design was selected for publication, because the reality was, I hadn't crocheted in a long, long time.  And, the design was rather complex in nature.  I was less worried about being able to remember how to crochet, than I was concerned about being able to write a comprehensible pattern and correctly sized motifs. To my relief, the sweater came together beautifully, and was far simpler to create than I imagined.  Crocheted sweaters are usually quicker to make than knitted ones of the same yarn- always a plus in my book!
The runaways are full of crocheted garments this year-retro and fresh at the same time.

Although these are ambitious and extraordinary pieces, there are many ways to translate the crochet look into your wardrobe.  A cardigan, a handbag, or a capelet- back in style again- are perfect pieces that are not as daunting.  Time to pull out those hooks!
Do you crochet? Let me know- I'd love to hear...

  2. Beautiful!! Well done. I do not crochet other than a chain for edging. It's seems like crossing to the dark side for me. I'm all thumbs at it but you...are amazing!

    1. After knitting exclusively for so many years, I know what you mean. It was fun to try my hand at crochet again. I think the preponderance of runway crochet has helped whet my appetite again. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  3. Wow, Knit Yarns, what a lovely accomplishment! Congratulations on the finished result. I really like the image overall and the brightness of the orange dress peeping through YOUR jacket. To me it seems just right, a balance of intricacy,a warm tone and a strong, simple shape. I haven't touched a crochet hook since age 12 or so, but overall you make it tempting to re-visit.

    1. I am looking forward to reading your post, as always. Those dresses are truly art. Thank you for the lovely compliment. Maybe crochet is more for you Tabitha. It is quicker than knitting, and very stylish again. Thanks for keeping me and my lonely blog company!

  5. Le Sirenuse and Capri were well worth the hassle of getting there, but the Hotel du Cap in Cap Ferrat, is still my number one and easier to reach!

  6. Off to look up the Hotel du Cap. Easier to reach always appeals to me, but , oh, those pictures of Le Sirenuse...

    1. Thank you WFF. I hadn't crocheted in a long time, so I was a little concerned at the beginning, but I 'm very pleased with the outcome. I had forgotten how much fun it was to crochet! I'm not quite ready to be a Personal Knitter, but I might be persuaded to be a Personal Knitting teacher!
