The cardigan was easier to make than it looks, mostly stockinette with some simple eyelet rows.

I opted for a folded over hem, as it is one of my favorite finishes, and gives weight to the light weight cardigan. Again- simple- just a few extra stockinette rows, and a "purl on the right side " turning row. The soft color of the Manos del Uruguay Serena yarn is sublime .
The sweater and some other lovely pieces can be found in the Early Fall issue of Vogue Knitting 2014.
Now to my title. I came across this quote by J.M. Barrie- of Peter Pan fame. "Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else."
Put any thread and implement(needle, hook, embroidery needle, tatting shuttle...) in front of me, and there is not much else I would rather do.
But, lately the days have been rolling into each other as I have been fortunate enough to have been given a number of contracts.
I have been staring at a post-it with "UPDATE THIS BLOG" for ages. Long enough that I have sweaters from the Fall 2014 issue of Vogue Knitting to add to this post!

Yes, I have to admit, the back log of other pieces, and the fear that another issue would be coming out soon compelled me to post today.
And, if you have had the patience to read down this far, hopefully you won't mind if I show you one more picture....

The mittens are from a wonderful book, 60 Quick Luxury Knits.
I love the Cascade Venezia yarn . It is a perfect blend of wool and silk. And the colors are scrumptious!
On the other hand, even though it is keeping me so very busy, there isn't much that I would rather be doing!
You are so talented! Okay, I am going to start a project! Jeepers, I still have my knitting basket up in my office! I love them all, though the cardigan is amazing! Would a similar weight of merino also work? I see that the Serena is alpaca wool and I usually find that itchy?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Wendy! Yes, any yarn that knits up to the gauge will work, the fiber isn't that important. I used to shy away from alpaca- actually run away, because it seemed itchy and hot. But, all of the knitting yarn I have been sent recently that is comprised of some, or all alpaca, has been very soft and light. I think it is how it is processed. Let me know which project you wan to start, and I will walk you through it!
DeleteOh and ps, I absolutely hear you on the not really work. As I beaver away on the umpteenth draft and work to make the book both better and publishable, I am always so happy! Will I be even happy published? Probably as it means I will get to talk about the characters with kids, but I love it no matter what!
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that you will be published soon! As for the " not really work", I do love what I do, although, I put in so many hours it is certainly labor, if not work!
DeleteI love the Open Front Cardigan! It is beautiful! Are the mittens also your design? I am a "Mitten Maker" and am always interested in new patterns. I can relate to the "not really work" thought. It seems all I want to do these days is sit and knit. I find the colours of our New Brunswick autumn very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteHI Barbara,
DeleteThanks for stopping by! The mittens are my design, and I just looked at all of your finished mittens-lovely! I find the colors of your New Brunswick autumn very inspiring, too.Canada is gorgeous.. And, I have no doubt that you will find mittens very useful during the Canadian winters : ).
Internet or on-line marketing works... Since we are in the age where most business transaction is processed on-line, marketing has also evolved to join the trend. Although on-line marketing should be coupled with the basic strategies, I still say it helps and it works. Ultra Isolation Transformers
ReplyDeleteI cherish the Cascade Venezia yarn . It is an impeccable mix of fleece and silk. What's more, the hues are flavorful!
ReplyDeleteThen again, despite the fact that it is keeping me so exceptionally occupied, there isn't much that I would rather be doing! Lovely sweater, really perfect and standard
